gia long’s emperor was born on on february 8th 1762. he ruled the country for 18 years (1802-1819). he passed away on february 3rd 1820 at the age of 58. his tablet was worshiped in the the mieu temple with the posthumous title of the to cao hoang de.
the tomb of the first of nguyen dynasty is located some 20 kilometres south of hue in an area of outstanding natural beauty. originally constructed by the king for his wife on her death in 1814, it is a double-grave tomb. the nearby minh thanh temple is dedicated to the king and queen, whilst a stele recounts the king’s life and achievements.
